Many high school graduates can use some financial support to help pay for their post-secondary education in college so let’s take a look at some scholarships for college students in Florida.
Students looking to attend college in their home state of Florida can definitely add a bit of sunshine to their college savings, wouldn’t you think?
There are quite a few options to help you cover all of your college expenses. Check out these 23 Florida scholarships that are available to qualifying students.
In the first part, we list several scholarships offered by Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, that are available to students attending or planning to attend Santa Fe College. Then, we also highlight several other options. Santa Fe College operates in the Florida College System, a cooperation of 28 publicly-funded colleges in Florida.
Santa Fe College Florida Scholarships
1. Amber Peck & John Parker Environmental Sciences Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – This $1,600 scholarship is available for students enrolled in Santa Fe College in Gainesville.
Applicants must be majoring in the environmental sciences, for example, wildlife ecology, forestry, biology, or environmental science. Students must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and reside in Bradford or Alachua counties in Florida. Application deadline: June 15.
2. Colonel R James Glikes Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – This $1,600 scholarship is available to senior high school students residing in Bradford or Alachua county and that are planning to enroll in Santa Fe College.
Applicants must pursue a career in a nursing or health-related field and need to have a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15.
3. Florence Smith Nursing Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are four (4) scholarships available for students enrolled in or applying to one of Santa Fe College’s nursing programs.
The four annual Florence Smith Nursing Scholarships are possible through a donation from the Florence Smith Estate in 2007. Students can apply for up to three scholarships when they meet the criteria. Applicants need to hold a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15.
4. Evelyn L Wenzel Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – This $1,600 scholarship is available to high school students graduating from a high school in Bradford or Alachua county and who are planning to go to Santa Fe College.
Applicants must be planning to major in education and become a teacher. Having a GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. Application deadline: June 15.
5. Esther Porter Lane Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – This $1,600 scholarship is available to women who are at least 25 years of age and that reside in Florida’s Bradford or Alachua counties.
Applicants must be planning to enroll in Santa Fe College and must have a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15.
6. Bryan & Angela Nazworth Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – This $1,600 scholarship is available for high school students graduating from a Bradford or Alachua counties Santa Fe College’s building construction program and hold a GPA of at least 2.0. Application deadline: June 15.
7. Charles Perry Building Construction Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – This $1,600 scholarship is available to senior high school students residing in Bradford, Alachua, Levy, Dixie, or Gilchrist counties who are planning to enroll in Santa Fe College.
Applicants need to pursue building construction careers and have a GPA of at least 2.0. Application deadline: June 15.
8. Bruce P Walek Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are three (3) &1,600 scholarships available for high school students graduating from a Florida high school and planning to go to Santa Fe College.
Applicants are required to pursue careers as teachers in Florida and hold a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15.
9. Dr. Lamar E Crevasse Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are four (4) $1,600 scholarships available to high school students that graduate from Newberry High and live in Archer, Florida.
Applicants need to plan to enroll in Santa Fe College and have a GPA of at least 2.0. Application deadline: June 15.
10. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are ten (10) $1,600 scholarships available for students enrolled in the Zoo Animal Technology Program at Santa Fe College.
The amount associated with the award varies annually but usually, scholarships offered by Santa Fe College are $1,600. 10 Animal Kingdom Scholarships are offered annually and applicants need to have a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15.
11. Davis-Monk & Company Leo T Hury Business Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are four (4) annual $1,600 scholarships available to high school students graduating from a Bradford or Alachua county high school and planning to go to Santa Fe College.
Applicants need to enroll in one of Santa Fe College’s business programs and have a GPA of at least 3.0. Application deadline: June 15.
12. Automotive Service Association Auto Technology Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are two (2) $1,600 scholarships available to students enrolled in the automotive A.S. program at Santa Fe College.
Applicants must be Bradford or Alachua county residents and have a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15.
13. Charles L Blount Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are 37 annual $1,600 scholarships available to high school students graduating from a high school in Bradford or Alachua counties and planning to go to Santa Fe College.
Applicants must be residing in Bradford or Alachua county and have a GPA of at least 2.0. Application deadline: June 15.
14. Charles L Blount Automotive Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are 8 (eight) $1,600 scholarships available to high school students graduating from a Bradford or Alachua county high school and planning to enroll in Santa Fe College.
Applicants must enroll in one of Santa Fe College’s automotive programs and hols a GPA of at least 2.0. Application deadline: June 15.
15. Altrusa International Florida Scholarship (Santa Fe College) – There are four (4) $1,000 scholarships available for women ages 25 and up from Bradford or Alachua county who are planning to go to Santa Fe College.
The scholarships are awarded in equal installments for spring and fall terms. Renewals are decided upon by the Scholarship Committee of Altrusa International, Inc. of Gainesville, FL. Applicants need to hold a GPA of at least 2.5. Application deadline: June 15. For information about PERT scores, check out this page. 16. Retina Care Consultants Infographic Scholarship Contest – There are three (3) scholarships available in this contest: $2,500 for the winner; $1,500 for 2nd place; and $1,000 for 3rd place.
Retina Care Consultants is supporting aspiring eye care professionals so applicants must be Florida residents enrolled in a Pre-Med college program or an advanced degree in medicine at a college or university in Florida. Application deadline: June 30.
17. Abrahamson & Uiterwyk Essay Contest Scholarship – There are two (2) scholarships available. The essay contest is open to senior high school students or first-year college or university students ages 18 and up.
The students’ essays are judged based on style, grammar, accuracy, and originality. Two awards are offered annually, 1 for the spring semester and one for the fall semester. The scholarships must be used for tuition or other school-related expenses. Winners are selected on August 14. Application deadline: July 31. 18. American Dream Scholarship (Miami-Dade College) – There are 3692 $7093 scholarships available for Miami-Dade County residents that have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The scholarships cover in-state tuition and fees after other financial support such as grants, other scholarships, and Florida Prepaid College Plan funds are applied. Applicants need to file the FAFSA and meet minimally required scores.
For out-of-state students, the American Dream Scholarship covers the in-state portion of tuition and fees if all further requirements are met. Application deadline: August 20.
19. Florida International University National Recognition Scholarship – There are 200 $6570 scholarships available for incoming freshmen at Florida International University. To learn more about the hardest colleges to get accepted into, check out this interesting page.
Applicants need to have a GPA of at least 4.0, an ACT score of at least 30 or an SAT score of at least 2000, and be Hispanic National Merit/Achievement finalists.
The scholarships must be used to cover tuition & fees, and room & board, and are renewable if students maintain full-time status; a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher; and complete 30 credit hours in fall and spring terms. Application deadline: October 15.
20. Florida International University Presidential Scholarship – There are 50 $6,777 scholarships available for incoming freshmen at Florida International University. Applicants need to have a GPA of at least 4.0, an SAT score of at least 2000, or an ACT score of 30 or up.
The scholarships are for tuition & fees and books and the same requirements apply for renewal as for the school’s National Recognition Scholarship Program. Application deadline: October 15.
21. Florida International University Ambassador Scholarship – There are 200 $5,000 scholarships open to incoming freshmen at Florida International University. Applicants need to have a GPA of at least 4.0, an SAT score of 1280 or up, and an ACT score of at least 27 to qualify.
These scholarships cover 75% of the costs for tuition & fees and books. These scholarships are also renewable if the students meet the same requirements as listed above for other Florida International University scholarships. Application deadline: October 15.
22. Florida State University Freshman Scholarship – All freshmen at SFU are automatically considered for the school’s Freshman Scholarship. There’s no application needed.
The SFU Freshman Scholarship is awarded to students with exceptional academic merit, combined GPS and college-entrance test scores. The annual amount is $2,400 which totals $9,600 over 4 years at SFU. Application deadline: November 1.
23. Arts for Life! Scholarship – Every year, awards 25 $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated artistic and academic excellence in visual art, music, drama, dance, or creative writing.
Applicants must be Florida high school seniors about to graduate and submit completed applications and an essay. Application Deadline: February
24. Armando J. de Moya Scholarship – This $5,000 scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students pursuing a Civil Engineering bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Applicants must have completed at least 59 credit hours and demonstrate financial need to complete their studies. They need to be Florida residents and have at least a GPA of 3.0 at the University of Florida. Application deadline: March 1.
